Just Breathe
I thought I knew how to breathe correctly. Man, was I wrong.
Turns out I’m a mouth breather. And that’s bad, bad, bad. I also have email apnea, my breaths are shallower than a kiddie pool, and I tend to snore. Also, bad.
But I’m on the road to better breathing—and not a moment too soon. There is nothing more essential to our health and well-being than breathing. But most have us have forgotten how to do it correctly. In the age of Covid, this seems particularly important.
On the podcast, my guest James Nestor talks to me about his new bestseller Breathe: The New Science of a Lost Art, in which he spent seven years traveling the world to figure out why we don't breathe properly and how to fix it.
Since our conversation, I have done the following things:
Bought 3M tape to pry my mouth shut when I sleep. My wife is very happy about this.
Downloaded a few apps and do about 10 minutes of breathing exercises a day.
Pay attention to chewing my food longer. What’s this have to do with breathing? You’ll just have to listen to the podcast to find out.
Happy breathing!
